We awoke to a thick fog, but it pretty much lifted in Blue Hill Harbor by the time we were ready to go. We fueled up at the KYC dock and finally got away from the harbor by 09:15. It was dead calm, so we motored south down Blue Hill Bay, but this time on the west side of Long and Tinker Islands. By the time we got to the south end of Tinker Island, the fog had closed in and got progressively worse until, by the time we were in Jericho Bay, visibility was down to 100 yards (or less!). Naturally, this area is shot full of rocks, reefs, lobster pots, lobster boats, sport fishermen, other pleasure craft and tall-ships, so it was not relaxing. At one point, we had to slow down from our normal 2100 rpm (~7.0 knots) to 1200 rpm (4.5 kn), because the lobster pots were coming at us so fast it was hard to dodge them and keep any kind of watch on the radar for all the other “targets”. At the south end of Jericho Bay, the fog lifted and we pulled into Merchants Harbor and anchored in 16 feet of water just before 13:00. Our afternoon was spent working on helping our daughter figure out how to finance her grad school; we did not even get ashore for a walk. About mid-afternoon, another sail-boat came into the harbor and anchored 100 m away from us, but we did not have any discussions with them. Dinner aboard, of course.
