We woke to yet another gorgeous dawn. After breakfast, we turned in the rental car and got ready to head upriver, finally getting away from the dock about 11:30. We took the scenic route by going around Kennebecasis Island, via the Milkish Channel, then turned up into the St. John River, spending a pleasant 3 hours sailing downwind along the Long Reach. Dale and his wife, on “Ginger Snap” (our dock buddies at RKYC), passed us about half way along the 9 mile long Long Reach. We turned off behind Caton Island and dropped the anchor just outside the mooring field at Whelply Cove, which was mostly empty. Just after we got the hook down, the skipper of another boat in the mooring field, “Elusive”, came over to say hello; they are from Rothesay YC, about 5 miles up the Kennebecasis River from the RKYC. They also advised that we were welcome to use one of the moorings here and assured us they were big enough for our boat; he also gave us a bunch of advice regarding good places to anchor during our tour of the Saint John River.  So, we picked up the anchor and moved over and picked up a mooring ball at about 16:30. Another yacht, “Wind Chime”, a 1993 Island Packet 35, is moored next to us, showing a Texas flag and the yardarms and a hailing port of Willis Point, TX. They have just bought the boat at the RKYC and are on a shakedown run before heading south to the States. Happy hour and dinner aboard; pork chops.
