After a long weekend in Lafayette with our old friends Steve and Mimi Anderson, visiting and celebrating Mardi Gras, we got back to the boat Monday afternoon at about 14:30. Weather was cool (55 deg F) and breezy (wind ENE 5 - 10), with intermittent rain showers through the afternoon. We refueled at the Delcambre Fuel depot and headed south down the Delcambre Canal. At the end of the canal, we turned left (east) up the canal toward Avery Island. After one wrong path up a canal to the salt mine, we found the canal that leads to the main entrance to Avery Island. We were unable to get up to the public dock as the water was too shallow and they would not let us stay at the Avery Island private dock, so we anchored in 9 ft of water about 50 yards to the west of the private dock. Tomorrow we will head toward Morgan City, but plan to anchor overnight at Charenton Canal, which is about half way from Avery Island to Morgan City.
