Another pleasant night in the cool Maine air, although the dock was a bit creaky and noisy; nevertheless, we slept well. I found a place that will refill the empty propane tank; as it is 1.5 miles away, we were up early and had a bit of morning exercise. After we got back, I finished cleaning the deck and topsides and we both had showers. Bernie popped round to see if he could offer us a ride anywhere, but we are in good shape, so he wished us bon voyage. We got away from the dock about 11:30 and headed north up West Penobscot Bay, keeping Seven Hundred Acres Island and Islesboro Island to port. The wind was a bit fickle and we were fighting the ebb tide, so we motored all the way to the north end of Islesboro Island. As we turned the corner toward Castine, the wind on the east side of the island was blowing 25 knots, so we had an excellent sail, close-hauled, across East Penobscot Bay into Castine Harbor. I believe this is as far north as we will get this year, but still a bit of easting to achieve before we turn south for the winter. There we tied up to the Town Dock (29.1 N-miles for the day) and waited for cousin Evelyn’s friend LouAnna to pick us up. They kindly invited us to their home for dinner - fish chowder and cornbread, yum - and a jam session with their daughter and another friend; learned a couple of new songs and had lots of fun. We got back to the boat about 22:00. 44-23.233’N, 068-47.749’W. This is likely the farthest north we will get this year.
