70th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy; been reflecting on that a lot the last few days. Another beautiful day in paradise. We got up and went about 09:00. We got the sails up and engine off after just 0.5 mile and then sailed all the way to Horseshoe Bend on the St. Mary’s River, where we anchored near St. Mary’s College. It was a lovely sail and we had about 20 miles with the spinnaker up. We sailed right up to the anchorage and only turned the engine on at the end so we could use the anchor winch; total engine time for the day was less than 1 hour. By happenstance, the Collegiate National Sailing Championship was taking place in the bay. Other than that, however, there was not much going on in historic St. Mary’s, which was the capitol of Maryland until 1676, when it was moved to Annapolis; no restaurants or bars (wonder what the 2000 college students do for fun?). We walked around town for a bit and then came back to the boat for cocktails and dinner.
