We wanted to get an early start today to make it to the marina in time to go see Shiloh Battlefield, so we were up at 06:30. Unfortunately, the cold temperature (46F) brought an early morning ground fog so thick we could not see “Islandia”, which was anchored 140 ft away. So, we waited till 08:30 for the sun to get up far enough to burn off the fog. The current was 2.0 kn foul as we pulled out into the stream and increased progressively to 3.0 kn just before the Pickwick Dam. We locked through (57 ft rise) without delay at 11:20 and were tied up at the Grand Harbor Marina by 13:05, after first pumping out and fueling up. As soon as we were secured, we borrowed the courtesy car and, along with Diane and Bob from “Islandia”, drove over to the Outpost for lunch and then onto the Shiloh Battlefield National Monument. I sat through an excellent 45 minute explanatory film (Ken Burn’s-like production, narrated by, of course, Peter Coyote) at the Visitor’s center, while the rest of them went over to view the Indian Mounds. Absolutely, gorgeous day with high temp of 72F. Back to the boat for happy hour and dinner aboard.
