We were up at 07:30 to get ready for the short run to Killarney. The anchor was aweigh by 09:15, and we motored the short run to Killarney, arriving at Killarney Mountain Lodge marina at 10:20. The Admiral went straight to the grocery (well, convenience) store and I went to Killarney Auto and Marine to pick up the replacement pump for the aft head; the parts were there waiting for me, so I came back to the boat and went straight to work. Getting the old pump off was easy and as I had already obtained new hose for the raw water inlet, I pulled off the old hose (which may have been the source of the original leak) and put in the new one. This proved to be easier said than done; the through hull has a barb fitting which I could just barely get to and I found it impossible to work the hose end onto the fitting. After a short break for burgers and a beer up at the lodge and after 3 hours of grunting and sweating and swearing and losing all the skin on the knuckles of my left hand, I just gave up and decided we were stuck with flushing with potable water from the tank. Since I had a spare joker valve in hand, I decided to replace the old one on the forward head. Easy, except when I was fastening the pump assembly back down and leak-testing, I discovered a crack in the base of the housing, which was leaking. So, I removed this pump assembly and replaced it with the old one I had just removed from the aft head, and it all works fine now, with no leaks from anywhere, even the raw water inlet nozzle. But we now have two working heads again. After I cleaned up and calmed down a bit, we went over to “Islandia” and shared fresh fried fish from Herbert’s. About 21:30, we went up to the lodge bar to listen to a guitar player for a couple of hours; the bar is a circular building with very nice atmosphere - well worth a visit.
