It was a beautiful, clear dawn after a cool, clear night. We were up early (for us, anyway) and had the anchor aweigh by 09:00. After clearing Oak Point and departing Hotham Bay, we turned west into McBean Channel, headed through Little Detroit and into Whalesback Channel. At the west end of John Island, we turned north and then back east into Beardrop Harbour. About half a mile into the harbour, we turned back south behind a small island that sheltered us from the west wind and anchored behind “Islandia” at 11:45. After lunch, the Admiral and I rowed ashore and picked a bunch of blueberries; we will have fresh fruit for breakfast for several days on the strength of that. We then rowed all the way to the back of the lagoon, which left a long, 1-mile row back to the boat against a 16 kn wind - good exercise. A trawler from Corpus Christi - “Peli Lani” - anchored right behind us later in the afternoon, and we had a short chat with them; they have come all the way from Coco Beach, FL since April this year. Cocktails on “Islandia”, dinner aboard, followed by a sing-along/planning session.
