The wind and tide were fair for heading down the coast, so we got up early and went. We did a quick circle salute to “Nancy Lakin”, who came in to anchor late last evening, then took our leave, bound for Liverpool. We got the sails up and engine off almost immediately and sailed down the coast toward Liverpool. Along the way, we picked up a hitch-hiker: a Cedar Waxwing. He had run out of steam offshore and stopped in for a rest. The Admiral fed him a few seeds off a piece of bread by hand, and we gave him a small beaker of water. After about 45 minutes aboard, he took off and quickly disappeared from site in the general direction of the coast. As we neared the turning point to Liverpool, we decided (once again) to take advantage of the excellent weather to move another 30 miles down the coast to Lockeport, which will put us within range of Cape Sable tomorrow. We had the spinnaker up for about 3 hours and then, after dowsing the spinnaker, turned up toward Lockeport, shooting through Ram Island passage on the way in, and tying up at the dock at 17:00, just in time for happy hour. After dinner, the Admirals went up for a walk and a quick grocery top-up, and John and I rowed over to the fishing fleet to see if we could buy a fresh fish, but they had nothing to offer. On the way back to the boat, we helped a schooner from Vineyard Haven - “Charlotte” - pull into the dock beside us. They were a bunch of typical New Englanders, who provided mono-syllabic responses to our cleverly crafted questions, and that was about it. Then we played “Settlers of Catan” until midnight.
