Intermittent rain during the night kept it cool, and we slept very well. We said goodbye to “Yankee Lady” (they are heading back to Cape Cod), did a quick grocery run after breakfast, then turned in the rental car and walked up to the Alexander Graham Bell museum, run by Parks Canada. Bell had a summer, later full-time, home (Beinn Breagh) just across the bay from Baddeck, where he worked on countless inventions and innovations, after he had made his fortune with the invention of the telephone. It is an excellent museum and well worth a visit if you are in the area. After lunch back on the boat, we fueled up and pumped out and finally got away from the marina about 15:00, in a heavy mist. Initially, we headed NE up Baddeck Bay, thinking we might anchor at Herring Cove. However, it did not look quite as bullet-proof as Maskells Harbour and, wary of tomorrow’s forecast of NE half-gale, we turned around and ran before the wind to Maskells, anchoring there in splendid solitude at 17:00. The Admiral worked on vegetable soup (for tomorrow and later) and I grilled dinner. We enjoyed a quiet sunset through the cloud banks to the west.

Forecast for today is NE 15 - 25 and rain. We were quite sheltered from the wind in Maskells Harbour, although it was raining when we got up, so we decided to sit tight for a while; also, the lake looked quite rough outside over the spit. We did minor cleaning and maintenance and napped and read all day. At 15:00, we took one last over the spit and it still looked less than “gentlemanly”, so we settled in for the evening. Another sailboat came in and anchored on the other side of the harbour at about 18:30. Otherwise, it was a quiet and restful day.
