When we went to bed last night, the forecasts generally were not very promising for today: E 10 - 20 kn. At 07:00, the forecast was the same, but the actual wind was W 2, with a bit of fog in the distance. By 09:00, when the Admiral got back from a quick run to the grocery store, the fog had moved in to the marina, so we thought, screw it, we’ll stay put. Then, at 11:00, the fog lifted a bit and it was still essentially calm, so we decided to see if we could make it the 30 N-m to Mont Louis. It stayed calm-ish all the way to Mont Louis and was showing no signs of kicking up, so we decided to push on for Riviere-la-Madeleine, which had been our original goal anyway. We never saw more than 8 kn of wind, and even then, only for a few minutes before it died back down, so it was a nice calm trip, although we had to motor the whole way. At Pointe du Gros-Morne, we reached the northernmost point of this year’s cruise at latitude 49-15.855’N; it is all south from here. Riviere-la-Madeleine Marina was happy to see us and we were tied up by 17:30. The boys from Vermont, Simon and Ben, on a Beneteau 321 “Meltemi” (we saw them last night at St. Anne, but they left this morning before we got up) were already here, so we finally got to meet them; a couple of nice young chaps doing a quick Down East Loop, before they have to join the real world, from their home in Vermont. After dinner aboard, we rushed up the short hill by the marina to watch a glorious sunset over the St. Lawrence River; most we have seen of the sun in several days. More time-lapse video of this leg follows:
