Light rainfall at dawn, so we rolled over and went back to sleep, till 08:00. We finally got rolling about 10:00 and moved on another 20 miles or so and 3 more locks, and stopped for the night in Amsterdam, NY (family home of Kirk Douglas). It used to be a prosperous place, until the Mohawk carpet mill closed down in the 60’s. Now, unfortunately, it reminds me a bit of the town in the Jimmy Buffett song “Ringling, Ringling”. We had a walk around downtown, but it is pretty dead. But the dock is excellent (and cheap) and located right next to a nice BBQ place; a beautiful riverfront setting. Just before “happy hour”, our new friends on “Significant Other” pulled in right behind us, so we shared a drink and had a bit of a gab with them, before we went to dinner.
