The Admirals were up early for a row around the cove to look at the marine intertidal wildlife. After breakfast, we got the anchor up and were underway before 10:00. “Massilia” went outside, but we took the inside short-cut via Eliza Bay and Radar Channel. Just past the narrowest part of the bay, we had a very close encounter with a humpback whale; we shut down and drifted for about 15 minutes while the whale dove and surfaced all around us, once diving within 10 feet of our bow - very cool. The wind was on the nose and we were in narrow waters, so we motored all the way to the mouth of Rivers Inlet. There, we freed off enough to the NE to sail for the last hour, before entering Klaquaek Channel, which has the appearance of an alpine lake (which is probably why it is called “The Lake”). The anchor was down in Frypan Bay by 12:00. We had a relaxing afternoon and caught up on reading. About 22:30, John and I heard a huge crash outside, close at hand, which echoed around the bay for several seconds. We could not see anything with the spot-lights, but it must have been a tree or large branch crashing down.
