After a good nights sleep, we were up just after 08:00, had breakfast and listened to the morning weather forecast; it sounds good for a rounding of Cape Caution. We weighed anchor at 10:30. As soon as we got to the mouth of Miles Inlet, the fog disappeared. The wind was light from the SW, so we motor-sailed. About 11:20, we spotted a couple of whales, humpbacks, we think, and got one good photo of a fluke. Cape Caution was abeam 500 m to starboard at 12:37; first time we have ever been able to see the cape, as all previous roundings have been done in conditions of poor visibility. As we got a little closer to Smith Inlet, the wind went to the NW and picked up a bit, so we sailed across Smith Inlet until the entrance of Millbrook Cove. We anchored there at 15:00, near “Ravens”, a Rozema Boat Works aluminum trawler based on a Bering Strait-type fishing boat. Later, just before dinner, “Jump for Joy”, came in and anchored nearby. One of the crew immediately kayaked over and advised that they were a brass quintet from the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra and would be practicing for a while in advance of their scheduled concert tomorrow night in Port McNeil. So, we had a free concert; they played a number of Beatles songs, including “I am the Walrus” and “When I’m 64”.
