We decided not to leave yet, so after breakfast, we rowed in to do the laundry. Since we are not staying at the marina, they would not let us use the marina’s laundry, so we had to walk into the mall, basically across the street from Coast Hardware, where I needed to go anyway. While the Admiral was tending to the laundry, I occupied myself trimming off the bad end of my piece of teak (for the taffrail) and then sanding off about 60 layers of old varnish. Back to the boat for lunch and I spent most of the afternoon finish sanding the board, then drilling the holes for the shrouds, belaying pins and the eye-bolt. Then, we had a phone call from John and Laurie (they are in Refuge Cove) and a FaceTime from Tessie (they are in Anchorage). I had to run back up to Coast Hardware to replace the caulk I bought yesterday, which was hard as a brick. When we got back, it was time for Captain’s hour, so all sawing and drilling had to stop. Leftover lamb chops and mixed veggies for dinner.

Another nice night in paradise; not so cool as the last few nights, but still very pleasant. After breakfast, I spent a couple of hours finishing off my new pin rail (the proper name; not “taff rail”, as I have been calling it the last couple of days). Once I had that installed, it was lunch time. After lunch, we rowed into the dinghy dock and we walked up to Safeway. After shopping we caught the bus home (quicker, and much less expensive than a taxi), and got back to the boat just in time to have a Zoom call with Dan, Emily, Henry and Joyce. Dinner aboard and another lovely, sunny sunset. Maybe tomorrow, we will go somewhere else.

Or maybe not. We rowed into town right after breakfast to have a look at the cockpit cushions of a Beneteau 473 that was at the dock and to see if I could find another piece of teak to do a pin rail for the port side (because I am so pleased with the one on the starboard side) and to pick up the hardware for said pin rail. Longboat Marine was unfortunately, but understandably closed on Sunday, but we walked up to Coast Hardware and got the hardware anyway; I’ll just have to find a piece of teak elsewhere or stop back by here later. After lunch, we did not decide to go to Manzanita Bay and just stayed here instead. I did get “Swallow” out for a sail around the bay; I beat down to the south end of the bay and, just as I got there, the wind absolutely died for about 45 minutes, then came back in from the NW, so I had to beat back up to the north end of the bay. As the wind steadied from the NW, I did get in a good sail for the next hour or so. We had a solar shower and enjoyed Captain’s hour and dinner aboard, followed by a long telephone call with daughter Ashley; sigh. She is coming to visit us for a week or ten days at the end of August, so that will be very nice.
