We got up early to see Ashley and AJ off. As soon as they were in their taxi, I paid off the marina and we got away from the dock at 08:00. The wind was very light, so we motored all the way to Comox. For the first 10 miles we were fighting the ebb north through the south end of the Johnstone Strait, but then we got to the tidal null point and rode the ebb all the way down to Comox, where we bought 118 L of diesel and were tied up at the Comox Harbour Authority dock at 14:15. After we were all settled in, I tried several times to call the RCAF station at Comox to arrange to take them out for a beer, but no one answered the phone number I had. About 16:30, we walked over to Karen and Graham Hatlelid’s lovely new (to them) home - 1633 Beaufort Street - for snacks and dinner with them, Taylor (another of Michael’s childhood buddies) and Georgia, Taylor’s mum Dallas, Graham’s granddad Tom and their 5 children (2 from Graham and Karen, and 3 from Taylor and Georgia). Graham and Taylor have a beautiful home about 60 feet above sea-level overlooking the eastern part of Comox Bay and the spit to the south; absolutely gorgeous. We got back to the boats about 20:30. I had a whiskey, but John had to put the forepeak berth back together after having disassembled the head and holding tank to resolve a blockage; he has apparently solved the problem, but we have not heard any details (I guess it’s a secret). Early to bed.
