Seventy-eight years since that “Longest Day”; salute to the boys who landed on Normandy beaches in the early dawn hours all those years ago. After last night’s libations and dinner, we were a bit slow getting up (plus, we knew John and Laurie would not be ready to go by 10:00). However, we were up and moving about by 08:30. After breakfast, Terri made one last run to the grocery store and the clothing shop for some socks, while I got the boat ready to depart. We finally pulled away from the dock just after 11:00. As soon as we were out of the marina, we got the sails up and sailed south past James Island, where the wind died off and went straight on the nose. Rather than delay arrival in Victoria until after 19:00, we started up the iron genny and motored the last 3 hours, eventually arriving at the dock at 15:15.  On the way into the harbour, we topped up the fuel tank with 9.1 gallons of diesel. Shortly after arrival, John and I took off to Trotac Marine - John for spare halyard and safety lines and me for a replacement propane hose. We got back to the boat by about 17:30 and had happy hour. John’s sister Annette and nephew David, along with David’s son Ashley, dropped in unexpectedly to join us for a bit. Then we went to dinner at Curry Club; very nice Indian food.
