It was not cold last night, so we slept under only a sheet and a very light blanket, but had to fight the bugs off all night. When we awoke this morning, it was absolutely clear and flat calm - summer has finally arrived. We got underway just after 09:00 and motored off down the Saint John, passing on the opposite sides of Long and Spoon Islands as on our up-river trip, which gave us a good look at Queenstown and Hampstead along the way. Just south of Evandale, we turned left into Belleisle Bay, looking in first at Kingston Creek and then moving a few miles further up the bay to Jenkins Cove, where we anchored in 13 feet of water at 12:30. After lunch, we lazed around and listened to a bit more of David Baldacci’s “Memory Man”. The wind got up, as predicted, in the afternoon to 15-20, gusting 25, which is a bit fresh for a relaxing sail on “Swallow”, but, as the water temperature here is 69.4F (about 22C), I just had to go in for a swim. I got out the snorkel and mask and had a look at the prop zinc, which is about 1/3 gone, and that was about as much refreshment as I could stand, so I got out and took a nice, hot shower on the transom. We hung around, watched the local eagles hunting and read the rest of the afternoon, just enjoying the sunshine which has been so lacking the last week or so. Dinner aboard - pork chops. We sat out in the largely bug-free cockpit until dark, chatting with some of the locals who cruised by in a pedalo and watching a huge beaver along the northern shore. According to the ship’s log, this is the easternmost stop we have made, or are likely to make, this year.
