As noted in the Active Captain reviews, Roque Island Harbor proved to be a bit rolly, although I never could figure out where the waves or wakes or swells, or whatever they were, were coming from; but they hit us broadside all night long. We listened to the boom hinge griping all night, because it was too cold to get up and do something about it. Finally, about 07:00, I got up and lashed to boom down, but by then I was up. The morning was beautiful and clear, so, after a leisurely breakfast, we hauled the anchor up and headed a little further Down East, stopping at Cutler Harbor, where we anchored just after noon. Cutler is a lovely little fishing village, with nothing else going on; no town dock, no restaurants, no grocery, no tourist board, but all the natives are very friendly. Visiting yachts generally just anchor outside the fishing fleet mooring field. After a quick lunch, we rowed ashore and found the trail to the Maine Coast Heritage Trust’s Western Head Reserve. This is a nice ~2 hour hike from the south side of Cutler Harbor out to Western Head and back through the woods. After we got back to the boat, we both received texts from our daughter in Chicago advising us she had just been hit by a car while jogging and was in the ER at the hospital awaiting results of X-rays. We spoke to her on the phone and she sounds fine; a little banged up and with a very sore knee (wait until tomorrow), but a bit scary just the same. Later in the afternoon, a boat came in and anchored near us - “Shelduck”, out of Cork, Ireland. We chatted across the water a bit, but do not seem to have any mutual friends. They are headed to Eastport tomorrow, as are we, so maybe we will have a better chat then.
